Multifunctional, communication service for promotion and dissemination of information on water and soil related research including:

• I4W Instant Messenger facility for a quick dissemination and exchange of information on water and soil related research/events/publication/any other relevant information. Specific NMS/ACC research needs related to the water and soil priorities of FP7 and WSSTP

One of the objectives of the Integration4Water Project was to enable an early involvement of the researchers from the NMS/ACC in the preparation of the specific Work Programme of FP7. This was achieved by identification of the research needs existing in these countries and combining them with the already defined thematic priorities of FP7 and priorities expressed in the Strategic Research Agenda of the European Platform Water Supply and Sanitation Technologies (WSSTP).

The following research needs presented as potential FP7 project ideas have been identified during the I4W workshops Event organised in Warsaw in June 2006. These ideas have been proposed to the Commission for consideration as potential FP7 call lines. The topics presented below have been worked out jointly by researchers from NMS/ACC, presented as Topical Expert Groups.

1. Advanced understanding of adaptive capacity of catchments under increasing environmental and climate change pressure.
2. Sustainability of the ecosystem goods and services under changing climate and environmental pressures in large Europe.
3. Enhancement of effectiveness and efficiency of adaptation strategies and measures under uncertainty

1. Managing water resources with conflicting demands
2. Soil, water and sediments interactions affecting water quality and quantity, and advanced integrative monitoring and evaluation systems for water environment and diffuse pollution.
3. Application of eco-technical measures to upgrade aquatic ecosystem services

1. Comparative studies of conventional and new agricultural practices (based on ecological knowledge) for supply, cropping and soil erosion prevention and development of DSS (Decision Support System) tools using new available information
2. Development of multi-barrier membrane systems for a low-risk re-use of effluents to promote water savings in SMEs and decentralised schemes
3. Novel preventive management tools and cost-effective technologies tailored for specific needs of industrial wastewater treatment and re-use
4. Risk assessments based upon the methods and models for evaluating soil, ground- and surface water degradation and contamination at appropriate scales
5. Methods for remediation of contaminated and/or degraded land, water and sediments
